Warmup:

  • Find a recent article that relates to networks / networking. Read the article and be prepared to discuss.
  • Identify who the stake-holders are in your article.

  • Networks - Social & Ethical Issues
  • Networks Areas of Impact
    • Open the Inspiration template Media:NetworkingImpacts.isf
    • Give an example of how a particular social/ethical issue would relate to an area of impact (within the context of networks!)
    • Example: privacy -> medical records that are transfered over a network ought to remain unreadable -> health
    • Come up with an example for at least five of the issues (we will compile them on the wiki as a class)
  • REMINDER: Essay revisions are due by Wednesday!
  • IT Social & Ethics Vocab Quiz Grades

Thursday (9/25/08)

Warmup:

  • What does LAN stand for? Give an example.
  • What does WAN stand for? Give an example.
  • What is the difference between a hub and a switch?
  • What kind of information is found in a networking packet? (HINT: think of mail)
  • Within the context of networks, what does IP stand for? Under the IP, what does every computer possess?
  • What do we add to packets so that they can be received out of order?
