Agenda: College Research Assignment

  • Create a Word document or Excel spreadsheet
  • Research 5 colleges to which you are interested in applying. For each college, please identify and document the following information:
    • Name of school
    • Location
    • Tuition (for you, in-state or out-of-state)
    • Median GPA for applicants
    • Median SAT for applicants
    • Rankings (you can search USNews or the school's website)
    • Application process (e.g. CommonApp or not)
    • Application deadline
    • Application requirements (e.g. recommendations, resume, SAT IIs)

College Major Assignment

  • Create a Word document
  • Research 3 specific majors that you might pursue in college. In your Word document, please answer the following questions:
    • Describe the field/area that the major is in. What exactly would you study?
    • List at least 5 specific classes that you would take for this major.
    • List at least 3 careers that would stem from this particular major.

High School Resume Assignment

  • Create a Word document
  • You will create a resume for all your high school activities, jobs, and honors.
  • For now, list all of your activities, specific jobs, and honors.
  • Please date the months and years for all of the above.

  • Many schools are buying mobile computer labs to use in different classrooms. The mobile lab has a set of laptop computers, a printer and a server all in a mobile cart (see Figure 1). The server, connected to a network port in the classroom, allows the laptops to connect to the school network.
    • (a) A teacher of French has booked the mobile lab for a lesson. Describe one use that her class could make of the Internet during the lesson. [2 marks]
    • (b) A science teacher has booked the mobile lab. Describe one use that his class could make of the equipment without network access. [2 marks]
    • (c) Describe two problems that the school administration may face by introducing mobile computer labs. [4 marks]
    • (d) Many issues may arise from the use of mobile labs. Discuss three distinct issues that may affect the students’ education. Evaluate your arguments. [12 marks]

    • (c) Banks store customers’ personal data. The bank must have a policy covering the storage and use of this data. Describe two rules that must be included in this policy. [4 marks]
    • (d) Discuss three social and/or ethical concerns that customers should have about storage of their personal data. Evaluate your arguments. [12 marks]
