  • A Desktop That Can Travel With You
  • Summary: This article is about desktop-based virtual machines that were made just like a laptop. One of the issue is people and machine because there is visualization that interacts with the desktop and the people. There are different software packages that lets you run the full versions for functioning the system for the system. In this way, this helps the desktop computers run the new software before getting working with hardware. The people are able to use this computer consistently.
  • Another social and ethical issue is reliability because people are able to rely on this desktop computer and the desktop-based virtual machines. They can take it with them anywhere they want to and have control over it. Everyone has equal of access to this computer because it's available all the time for them.

  • Summary: One issue here would be privacy and anonymity because people are posting mean things about other people
but it is anonymous which means that their name is hidden. Yet, there is no privacy because the website is open. I think the website should be controlled by the owner from people to post something inappropriate. However, if the people do post them then it is the owner's right to remove the comments or make the page where offensive words can't be written. Also, security appeals in here because the owner of the website actions immediately or else it will get much worse. By doing these, this website can become safe for everyone. I feel bad because bad because people are being insulted and some innocent people as well. In reality, these mean people wouldn't go in front of the people and say it because they know what the situation will be and I pity the owner. I would strict against all these comments by removing them and make this website not anonymous so no one feelings get hurts.

Facebook Makes Deal With German Privacy Group]

  • Summary: In Berlin, Germany there have been about 10 million people who has facebook accounts and this leads the Facebook team to make a deal with Germany Privacy group. Once reason was the German people were violating the Facebook policies and they were fined for this act. A spokesman named Tina Kulow had in Hamburg stated how the German users should upload their address book for finding friends. One fact for sure is that Facebook today have became the biggest social network in the world because millions of people have facebook accounts. Mr. Caspar, during an interview, said his office had received “many, many complaints” during the past six months from Germans who had never used Facebook but were still receiving Facebook solicitations because their e-mail addresses had been siphoned from friends. In United States Facebook have became the second business. In Germany, the people were allowed to use Google through because they uploaded pictures of their home and apartments from the view of the street photographic map. One of the social and ethical issues is policies and standards because the Germans were fined hugely for violating Facebook. Another issue refers to Globalization and Cultural Diversity because all the people in Germany and around the world had accessed to Facebook. Therefore, equality of access since they had the access to the internet. One impact would be Business and Employment because Facebook is a big business to the United States of American.
  • I think that it was a good idea for the German people to be fined because only they were allowed to use facebook illegally. Also, it was good for the Facebook because this wasn't fair to the other people.

  • [http:http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=personal-robot-research/2011: The Year of the Personal Robot?]
  • Summary: The Year of the Personal Robot 2011 article states how robot was created last May 2010 named PR2 by Willow Garage. This robot was made for helping the senior citizen, in another words its like a assistant to them. Garage wants to make this robot more intelligent since he is a Menlo Park, California who makes robot hardware and software. He had released a practice version of its personal robot platform in 2010. The Stakeholders are Willow Garage, Charles Kemp who is an assistant biomedical engineering professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Healthcare Robotics Lab researchers, and the Bosch Research and Technology Center at Palo Alto, California. The robot contains a mobile base, two arms for help, sensors, and two computers contained. The social and ethical term that relates here is people and machine because the PR2 robot is interacting with people while its a machine and they are using the robot. Another term would be control because you are able to keep charge of the robot for making them do what Garage wants to. Lastly, the last term is reliably because the robot is being manipulated as a people. This is an example of arts, entertainment, and leisure because Garage had created a robot for helping the old people. I think that this a good idea because tasks can be done faster and easily without any obstacles.
  • The total cost of the robot is $40,000 and the main focus of this robot was to manipulate as a human. Willow Garage is continue working on PR2 robot in order to make it better which can be helpful to the senior citizens.

  • {http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2371830,00.asp/Facebook Developers Sold User IDs to Data Brokers}
  • Summary: There is face book problems which is stating how some creates were given selling user ids to other some other people. This had became a big issue because the other networks was viewing the peoples' facebook account as public. The stakeholders are the facebook developers and Mike Vernal. Mike Vernal was saying about "As we examined the circumstances of inadvertent UID transfers, we discovered some instances where a data broker was paying developers for UIDs" which means the ids were actually stolen. This article is referring to Privacy and Anonymity because the peoples' user ids are not private. The developers names are not mentioned and when they sold the user ids, the name was different. The impact would be reliability because now people can't rely on Facebook because they might think the same thing might happen to them. I think that everyone should make their Facebook profile private because if it is not then everyone can look at you profile.

1.The fact that careers are all but selected for students in India and China also allows them to focus more in particular fields, providing them the opportunity to take classes in that field before they are even out of high school. This drastically contrasts with American high school students who usually do not even think about their careers until they are preparing to apply to colleges and may even change their intended careers halfway through college. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Why?

  • I suggest that this could be a good thing because it is helping them prepare for a specific career that they dream to have. Yet, an advantage is if they had another career as their first choice and the second choice is what their studying now and if they change their mind or aren't able to get their first choice, then they can stick to the studies now and get their second choice. In this case, they have chances because at the end they known if this study or career is good for them or not instead of studying later and find out if they're successful or not. However, one disadvantage is that if they start their studies later but are unsuccessful then it's just a waste of time. However, this might be a bad thing because they might be too early to learn the concepts since some things are better to learn later than early. They might not understand now but as times goes on they'll understand the the topics more clearly.

2. I think the students chosen to represent Americans were a pretty good depiction of some of the top students we have here. Do you agree or disagree? Why?

  • I agree that these American students were a good depiction out of the top students we have here because these students were intelligent and focused more in to their studies just like all others. They were hard working, cooperative, and with a positive attitude with their peers. They liked to help others and participated in sports, clubs, associations, or even community services. For example, there was one student who had served for class president and for some people their like the role model to them. In here, we have students just like them but we should have had some students that are different ethnics.

3. The purpose of viewing the video was to demonstrate a flat world - made flat by competing economies in China and India. And that happened because of the dot.com bubble which laid down the fiber optic cables connecting our country with theirs via the Internet. Now that you've finished viewing the video, what are some of your thoughts? Was it worthwhile to have viewed this video? Has it made you appreciate what you have? How can we say the world is flat and global all at the same time? Don't those images cancel each other out? Explain.

  • I thought that this video was interesting because it illustrated comparisons and contrasts of India, China, and the United States of America. I was surprised that there were more Asians who were more advanced in studies than the other ethnics. I agree that this was a helpful video because it taught us how other countries education systems works and how ours worked. I have got some experiences about India and China's teachings and how technology had advanced throughout education. Yes, somehow I was appreciated of what I have because we have many opportunities for our education such as financial aids for college, scholarships, etc to help us be successful towards our career. While in other places, they have less likely have this chance. The world could be flat shown all the competitors at an equal opportunity and that they have global society of the businesses, governments, organizations, and others. In Earth, there's cultural diversity which includes people from all over the world. They are equal at all or not at all. Yes, the images does cancel each other out because the Earth was a sphere but people believed that it was flat.

  • in the Classroom
  • Summary: The first thing is that only 19% of 12th graders uses computer daily for school work everyday. This is surprising because I think that these people probably spend their time with friend, chat, hang out, etc. This relates to people and machine because it seems to be that they're not focused on their school work that much.
  • The second thing is that 14% of classrooms in the United States have internet access and this is showing that they migh haved a different type of teaching system for teaching such as a white board or chalk board. Therefore, they don't have equalitiy of access because not all have access to internet.
  • The third thing is that 85% of schools in the United States have multipedia computers and this is showing that they don't have their own intellectual property (they don't don't own computers) because they can't afford to buy one.
  • One thing that I would likely change is for all the people to have access to internet by giving computers to them because now days there are works, hws, etc which can't be done without a computer. For example, if your doing a research project there might be some information you need to find on the internet which can't be found on some books. So, you can't always rely on books and other materials.
  • One downside of technology is that two-third of teenagers in United States use internet for writing shortcut. This seems to be a problem because people seem to purposely forgot the "English" language. Now they start to use this text language in their schoolwork.

  • the Powers of Persuasion
  • Summmary: A director from the Persuasive Technology Laboratory at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, named B. J. Fogg talks about how technology has been influeing "behavior." Frogg teaches people persuasive technologies for determing the behavior and been directing people to Facebook and Google. A book that he is writing is called "Facebook taps into our need to belong" which involves the concept of psychology of the social-networking site. There, Frogg is working on his different projects so he can successfully find the answer. The stakeholders are B. J. Fogg, the Cambridge, Massachusetts company Vitality, a graduate student from the Stanford University, Zaw Thet (Stanford's graduate student), and Scott Kleper (graduate student from Stanford). One of the student who worked with Frogg had named persuasion filed "captology" because this refered to the topic computers as persuasive technology. Throughout his studies he had learned many new and interesting ideas about persuasion techonlogies which is said in this qoute "Technology allows you to trigger behaviors in new ways, motivate in new ways, then simplify, automate, and scale up," Frogg says to to the people. This article is an example of equality of access which means that anyone can access some type of thing. In here, anyone can view his experiment of Persuasive Technology such as his articles, web sites, books, etc. For the impact, this would be Science and Environment because it's dealing with Persuasive Technology and how the behavior acts. I think that this is something that's new to me because Frogg is trying to introduce the people about Persuasive Technology which I've never had heard before.
  • Frogg states about his thoughts about Persuasive Technology projects which can benefit peoples' health and behaviors that effects the environment. In fact, many designs for Persuasive Technology are being tested such as the clinical trial, University of California, San Diego, for seeing if text messages, electronic nudges, etc would benefit the college students so that this can imporve their eating habits.

  • while driving bans don't work, may actually hurt, study finds
  • Summary: There have been researches from Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI)had stated about people text when they are driving. Although, this had now became a major issue because this is causing all the people to get injured or even being killed. "Textng bans haven't reduced crashes at all. In a perverse twist, crashes increased in 3 of the 4 states we studied after bans were enacted. It's an indication that texting bans might even increase the risk of texting for drivers who continue to do so despite the laws," is said by Adrian Lund who is from the Governors Highway Safety Association Governor's president. His opinions infers to how this is risking the people's lives. The stakeholders are Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) researcher's and Adrian Lund who wants to best help for preventing drivers from accidents, crashes, being killed, etc. The Social and Ethical issues is policy and standard because many people don't follow the rules and regulations of VA. Therefore, they break the law and thinks that they can get away with texting when driving. The impact is Arts, Entertainment, and leisure because this is impacting on how people disobey the laws and being careless by texting. Sine Lund says that he want to ban about texting when your driving. I agree with Lund about texting because the more people will text the more problems there will be. On the other hand, this makes me feel mad because I don't understand why people with common sense do crazy things.
  • In California (January 2009), Louisiana (July 2008), Minnesota (August 2008), and Washington (January 2008) there have been millions of people who died from texting during driving. As you can see, there were many losses for just doing one mistake. The more they continue to do this the more effect it will take during later years.

  • New Compass Uses Light Beams to Detect Magnetic Field
  • Summary: There are new compasses that uses light beams for detecting Magnetic field was created stated by a group of physicists. The compasses beams light through the rubidium atoms which can measure the size and the orientation of the magnetic field. Inside the compass there are build-in local magnetic field in order to find the direction and also it rebuilds the compass itself. The stakeholders are Zibrov along with his colleagues and they had tested the compass for pinpointing the compass at the right direction. They had eventually trapped the rubidium-87 atoms at the 113 degrees Fahrenheit. This relates to people because this would affect them. The compasses only have little energy for use and it's not that big. To me, it seems to be a modern invention of compasses and it is easier to use. Also, this tool might be helpful for education uses. I think that there should be better compasses.
  • The New compasses can detect directions for magnetic field.

  • Hack Turns $170 Media Viewer Into Tablet
  • Summary: This article is about how hackers have hacked electronically had made Webkit-basic browser for using the device program in order to run all the applications. This had became a big issue because they used "tablet" for puting it in to ipad. The people that controls the information should have more security systems from preventing hacking.
