Internet - Social & Ethical Issues

Objective:

  • You will be researching and presenting your findings on a particular social and ethical issue involving the Internet.

Requirements:

  • Identify and state the problem
  • Define the important terms relating to the problem (e.g. global, virus, addiction, etc.)
  • Give one specific example of the problem for one specific "Areas of Impact." For each example, describe the following:
    • What is the specific example of the problem?
    • Which "Area of Impact" is involved?
    • How did the issue/problem arise?
    • Who are the stakeholders in your example?
    • What are the perceived benefits?
    • Why is the issue/problem such a concern?
    • What measures have been taken to resolve this problem?
  • References section that follows APA or MLA formatting guidelines

Presentation:

  • Create a 5-10 minute powerpoint (.ppt) presentation to present your topic/issue.
  • Also create the PDF handout version of your slides.
  • You will submit both your presentation and your pdf
  • BONUS POINTS for anything outside of a plain presentation (e.g. audience participation, props, etc.)

Grading Rubric:

  • Identify and state the problem
    • 2 pts - clearly describes the problem
    • 1 pt - identifies the problem, but does not clearly describe it
  • Key terms
    • 3 pts - lists and defines all important terms
    • 2 pts - lists and defines most of the important terms
    • 1 pt - lists and defines few important terms
  • Example
    • 5 pts - addresses and answers all of the questions listed above
    • 4 pts - addresses and answers most of the questions listed above
    • 3 pts - addresses and answers a few of the questions listed above
    • 2 pts - describes the problem example, but does not go into specific depth
    • 1pt - states the problem example
  • References
    • 3 pts - lists all references with proper formatting
    • 2 pts - lists all references but with improper formatting
    • 1 pt - lists a couple references with no formatting
