1.What is the hourly salary of one of the newly hired BMW U.S. autoworkers? What is the hourly salary of the same autoworker if they worked in Germany? The U.S autoworkers make about 15 dollars per hour. The autoworker in Germany makes about double the U.S worker; so about 30 dollars.

2.Are you surprised by the pay differential between the U.S. and Germany? Why or why not? I am not surprised because there is a reason why Germany has a good economy. And since Germnay is known for cars and the quality of their cars the workers there might be more skilled; therefore they get a larger salary.

3.Can you think of other industries and/or countries that would offshore to the U.S.? Explain. I woukd think Japan would offshore to the U.S. Because they have less people and like Germany there car industry is larger and stronger then the U.S.

  • The three things that caught my eye were:

1-Teachers using computers as a learning aid and how teachers in fourth grade have a higher percentage of computer usage in the classroom then teachers in eighth grade. This would probably go under people and machines. 2-Louisiana's ratio of students per computer really shocked me as well, because 63:1 is very low. And you wonder how their academics is being effected by this, or maybe if it isn't being effected. This issue is about equality of access. 3-Percentage of students who said they never used the computer for school work. It is hard to believe as much time teens are on the computer that so little of that time is pent for school. This falls under People and Machines.

Solving the problem for Technology in the Classroom: More funding for schools who dont have the money to supply their school with computers, cameras, interactive bordes, etc. Because the more technology that schools are provided with the more ways that teachers can teach their students.

Downsides of Technology:

  • In this article a female engineer discuss the stereotypes of females in the engineering world. That a woman engineer is something unorthodox, and that most people view engineers to only be men.
  • Problem: The problem is the lack of cultural diversity, and equality of access to everyone; without being biased because of race, gender, or other characteristics.

How does it relate to me?

  • Solution: The media, schools, and adults should start to have fair and equal exceptions for kids starting at a young age. Therefore; no matter who you are you can picture yourself going into the engineering field, or any other field.
