Other Definition

"Integrity, in terms of data and network security, is the assurance that information can only be accessed or modified by those authorized to do so."

Layman's Definition

Data that remains the same when transfered from one thing to another.

Integrity ( Data Integrity) is mainly how reliable something is when transmitting data. If you send an email, the same thing you wrote should show up on that other person's screen, thus resulting in Integrity.

Examples of this consist of when you send information from one thing to another, and it remains the same. However, there are times when Integrity doesn't occur. According to [3], Integrity can be lost through, "Errors that occur when data is transmitted from one computer to another", "Natural disasters, such as fires and floods". The best example of Integrity is when you set up your bank account. Once everything has gone through the system, the information should be the same to when you registered. If it is not, then Integrity in the technology world has not happened. Data Integrity has also been referred as(by [3] in terms of data and network security, (data integrity) is the assurance that information can only be accessed or modified by those authorized to do so.”

Luckily, it is easy to maintain Integrity! -[4] suggests that you do the following:

- "Backing up data regularly", basically saying that all of your information should be stored on another reliable source in case Integrity is broken.

-They also suggest that you should " Use error detection and correction software when transmitting data"

Both of these suggestions are clear cut examples of how you can easily maintain your computer and internet safety. If you do fall into a situation where data is lost or impaired, You can restore the validity of your data through a back up file stored in a secure place.

What I have read from -[5] Data integrity is the information that you send over the internet that will be valid. For example, Sending your social security over the internet and making sure that the information you sent was valid or correct and will send that information to their servers that has been verified. Another example is an identification number to be nine digits it may deny that information if it has more than 9 numbers or less. [4]

Data integrity is the "assurance that the information can be modified by the people who are authorized or able to do". -[6] When you send the information over the internet, you want the information to be correct, consistent or reliable. [5]
