College Major Assignment

  • Research 3 specific majors that you might pursue in college. For each of the specific majors, please answer the following questions:
    1. Describe the field/area that the major is in. What exactly would you study?
    2. What is the median starting salary for somebody with this undergrad major? (Resources: Wall Street Journal)
    3. List at least 5 specific classes that you would take for this major. (Names of the classes that are in the major)
      • Hint: Look at the major requirements on the college websites for that specific major
    4. List at least 3 careers that would stem from this particular major.

Monday - Friday (5/7/12 - 5/11/12)

  • Paper 1 - Friday, May 18, 1-3:15PM - Little Theater
  • Paper 2 - Monday, May 21, 8:30-10:15AM - Little Theater
  • Breakfast 8AM before Paper 2
  • Any missing mock exams can still be turned in!
  • Major topics review
  • Turn in your textbooks on Monday (5/21/12) or Mr. Bui will find you.
    • Mr. Bui has a very particular set of skills; skills he has acquired over a very long career. Skills that make him a nightmare for people who don't turn in their textbooks.
  • If you are a senior, please complete the following surveys:

    • Topic 5: Abstract data structures and algorithms
    • Topic 6: Further system fundamentals
    • Topic 7: File organization
  • Mock exam questions?
  • Print out slide handouts
    • Be sure to make them handouts

  • Complete the 2008 HL Paper 1 and Paper 2 for Monday (5/7/12)
    • Remember, you can type it up if you want!

  • Complete the NVCC end of course survey
    • NVCC student ID numbers can be found on the NVCC roster sheet
  • Turn in 2009 HL Paper 1 and Paper 2
    • Self-grade 2009 exam (markscheme posted on-line)
  • IB Computer Science Super Study Guide
    • Today: Topic 3: Computing system fundamentals
    • Today: Topic 4: Computer mathematics and logic
  • Print out slide handouts
    • Be sure to make them handouts
    • Be sure to not print out black background slides
