    1. Receive an area of impact and create a slideshow that presents your topic
    2. Find a *specific* use and examples of Networks or the Internet in your Area of Impact
    3. Explain how Networks or the Internet are used in your Area of Impact
    4. You should have some images/graphics of your specific example in your presentation (do *not* create a slide of just images)
    5. Describe the benefits in your example?
    6. Describe the costs in your example?
    7. Describe the social and ethical issues that arise in your example
    8. Describe the example's social impact
    9. Review your presentation and make sure that it is clear, concise, and presentable

    5. What was the original intent/advantage/benefit of the IT scenario? (i.e. why do we use electronic voting machines in the first place?) (2-3 sentences)
    6. What is the disadvantage/cost of the IT scenario? (2-3 sentences)
    7. Describe one or two possible solutions to the issue at hand

Monday (10/3/11)

Warmup:

  1. Create a Google Docs Presentation about your Open Source software
  2. Create slides for the information that you posted from your hw assignment
  3. This should be a presentation, so there should not be a lot of text!
  4. This should only take you 5 minutes!

  • Introduction to Networking and the Internet
  • Networks/Internet Assignment
    1. You will research your given issue in relation to "networks" or "the Internet" (e.g. find a problem or connection to networks or the Internet that relates to your issue)
      • Example: Intellectual property + Internet = Music Piracy
    2. Create a presentation (PowerPoint/LibreOffice/Pages) that contains the following:
      • Technical definition of your social & ethical issue
      • Your explanation of the definition to a 10 yr old
      • Explanation of how your issue relates to the Internet (give a specific example of an issue)
      • Graphics / Images
      • List & describe stakeholders
      • List & describe advantages / benefits
      • List & describe disadvantages / costs
      • Describe a possible solution to your issue
