Computer hardware assignment

Objective:

• You will learn the different parts of a personal computer
• You will learn to find computer parts online
• You will compare and contrast pricing of building your own PC vs. buying one prebuilt

Resources:

• NewEgg
• TigerDirect
• MWave

Procedures:

1. Go to a computer retailer's website (e.g. Dell, HP, Sony, Apple, etc.)
2. Find a DESKTOP computer that you would be interested in purchasing
3. Look for the computer's "technical specifications"
4. Bookmark or save the link
5. On your blog, create a post named "Computer Hardware Assignment"
   • Post the link to the computer that you found
6. Open an Excel document and paste the following into the document
   • Case
   • Power supply
   • Motherboard
   • CPU
   • RAM (memory)
   • Hard drive
   • Video/graphics card
   • CD/DVD burner
   • Monitor
   • Keyboard
   • Mouse
7. Using the on-line parts companies above, find the components of your pre-built machine
8. For each part, copy and paste the following into your document:
   • The full name of the part (including make and model)
   • The cost
9. After you have "purchased" all the parts, at the bottom of the spreadsheet, show the total cost of your machine
10. What was the cost of the original computer? Show the difference in Excel
11. Copy and paste the entire spreadsheet to your blog
