Objective:
- You will learn the different parts of a personal computer
- You will learn to find computer parts online
- You will compare and contrast pricing of building your own PC vs. buying one prebuilt
- Your objective will be to build a comparable (or better) computer to a brand name, but for cheaper
Resources:
Procedures:
- Go to a computer retailer's website (e.g. Dell, HP, Sony, Apple, etc.)
- Find a desktop computer that you would be interested in purchasing
- Look for the computer's "technical specifications"
- Bookmark or save the link
- Open a Google document
- Share the document with Mr. Bui
- Name the document Computer Hardware Assignment
- Create the header: Brand Name Computer
- Copy & paste the link to the computer that you found
- Copy & paste a picture of the computer that you found
- Copy & paste the specifications
- Copy & paste the price
- Create the header: My Build
- Create an account at: PCPartPicker
- Using PCPartPicker, find the components of your pre-built machine
- Make sure that your components "match" up with the motherboard
- You will most likely have to find matching components for:
- CPU
- Motherboard
- RAM (Memory)
- Storage (Hard drive)
- Video/Graphics card
- CD/DVD burner (Optical drive)
- Case
- Power supply
- Monitor
- Keyboard
- Mouse
- Operating system
- Make sure you save your current part list
- Copy and paste the permalink of your saved parts list to the Google document
- After you have "purchased" all the parts, copy and paste your saved parts list to the Google document (you can do a screenshot if you want)
- Be sure that you are copying the names of the parts, their cost, and total the cost of your machine
- Submit via Google Classroom
