Compatibility is when you have an item, program, that is inter-operable with two different Operating Systems.
layman's Terms (In technology) When a program can be used in different Computer Brands, Operating Systems
Examples: Microsoft Office 2007 products can be saved as a Microsoft Office 97-03 file. This shows that the programs saved in Office 07 is compatible with office 97-03.
Example 2: Games, many recent games are made for Windows Xp, but they are compatible with Windows Vista.
